Porcelain Crowns

Cosmetic Dentistry

Often referred to as a cap, a crown is a single artificial tooth that is fixed on top of an existing tooth or onto an implant in order to provide protection as well as natural aesthetics.
Traditional Porcelain fused to metal crowns have an inner metal layer inside the porcelain which unfortunately can cause graying or a visible black line at the gum margin. They can often look dull or opaque so their use has usually been limited to the back teeth in heavy bites where strength is the main requirement. The advancements in dental materials have meant that porcelain fused to metal crowns are gradually being superceded by All-Porcelain (All-Ceramic) crowns.

If your tooth is cracked, broken or worn down, the high strength All-Ceramic Crown (Zirconia or e.max) may be an ideal treatment for you. All-Ceramic crowns are excellent for restoring teeth that have large fillings needing replacement or where major changes in colour or shape are necessary. They can also be used to lighten your teeth, narrow gaps, and reduce crowding. The newer high strength ceramics have a very natural appearance due to their translucency and perfect colour matching is possible.
