Implant Overdentures
Dental Implants
Unsecured dentures are an old-fashioned solution for people who have lost all of their teeth. Unfortunately, you may find that wearing unsecured dentures can be painful, inconvenient and awkward. Such dentures make it difficult to chew a variety of foods, which can stop you from eating many of the foods you once enjoyed. Wearing dentures may also affect how you pronounce words, and therefore the way you speak.
An implant overdenture is a type of denture that is supported by and attached to implants with special attachments, thus greatly increasing the chewing efficiency and retention of the denture. They are usually made for the lower jaw due to the lack of stability often seen with full lower dentures.
Removable implant overdentures provide stability where new teeth are attached to two or more dental implants, making this a cost-effective option. You can chew with confidence a variety of foods and your sense of taste is unaffected. Your teeth can be removed for cleaning and the need for denture adhesives is eliminated.
Here at Knox Terrace Dental we can provide you with the LOCATOR Implant Attachment system, the premier system for implant-retained overdentures. According to recent studies, a two implant-retained, full denture restoration is considered the new minimum standard of care for patients without teeth in the lower arch.
For an even more secure fit, a removable overdenture on an implant bar can be constructed. A metal bar is fixed to your jawbone with two or more implants, providing stronger support for your removable dentures. Your new teeth can be removed for cleaning.
